The latest provisional HSE statistics highlight a critical gap in our industry: self-employed workers and small teams account for close to 45% of UK construction fatalities. Most health and safety systems are designed for big companies with dedicated compliance departments. Remove that infrastructure, and the daily site risk falls entirely onto the small business owner.

We built Beth Slade Safety to support busy, hard-working independent contractors trying to manage tight margins, pay their site teams, and keep projects on schedule. Too often, growing trade firms want to do the right thing, but premium safety advice is priced completely out of reach. They end up relying on cheap, generic template packages bought online just to tick a box. Most discover those folders are completely useless the first time an incident occurs or the HSE walks onto site.

We are changing that. Through our Construction Safety Subsidy, our practice directly absorbs the cost to provide practical, life-saving protection to the grassroots of our industry.

How the Initiative Works

Every intake begins with a 45-minute Site Safety Health Check. This is a free, straight-talking diagnostic looking at your active projects. It's delivered personally by our founder, Beth Slade, not passed to an associate, and looks at what is actually at risk and how your team is operating on the ground.

If your Health Check highlights areas that need ongoing support, you can access our heavily subsidised rates. This isn't a stripped-down, basic service. You receive the exact same expertise that we deploy for our larger projects—at an investment level tailored specifically for growing businesses.

Designing for Real Site Hazards

A health and safety check that only looks at ladders and edge protection misses half of what is actually putting your team at risk. Psychological safety is built into our approach as standard, not bolted on as an afterthought. Because our core framework integrates physical compliance with ISO 45003 psychological safety standards, we actively evaluate the systemic hazards that generic paperwork folders completely miss::

Operational fatigue and its direct impact on site decisions.
Commercial pressure to hit tight project deadlines.
Site culture issues where workers don't feel able to safely flag a hazard early.

Programme Eligibility Criteria

Because our time is limited and we refuse to compromise on the quality of our hands-on support, we strictly cap this intake to three spots per quarter. To qualify, your business must meet the following parameters:

Active Trade: You must be an active UK contractor working in a high risk trade (e.g., scaffolding, roofing, groundworks, refurb, extensions).
Team Size: You must be a self-employed sole trader, or manage an active site team of up to 10 workers (including regular CIS sub-contractors).
Commitment: You must be ready to move away from tick-box folders and build a genuine, safe site culture.
