Our sustainability policy.
1.0 Purpose
This policy sets out our commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. As a health and safety consultancy, we recognise our influence in promoting safer, more sustainable working practices, both within our own business and when supporting clients.
We will comply with all applicable UK environmental legislation, regulations, and codes of practice relevant to our operations. This includes the Environment Act 2021, Waste Regulations, carbon reporting requirements, and all other relevant environmental laws.
2.0 Scope
This policy applies to all activities undertaken by Beth Slade Safety Ltd., including site visits, consultancy services, training delivery, business administration, and associated travel.
3.0 Our Environmental Commitments
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact in practical, realistic ways and aim to lead by example, showing that sustainability and practicality can go hand-in-hand.
3.1 Travel and Site Work
-
We primarily work from home, reducing emissions from commuting.
-
Where client visits are required, we:
-
Plan routes efficiently to reduce mileage
-
Combine visits where possible
-
Use a well-maintained, fuel-efficient vehicle
-
Offset business mileage annually through a verified carbon offset scheme
-
3.2 Paper and Waste Reduction
-
We operate a digital-first approach, using electronic documents, forms, and reports.
-
Where paper is required:
-
We use recycled or FSC-certified materials
-
We avoid single-use printed handouts wherever alternatives exist
-
-
We minimise waste production and follow best practice in waste segregation and recycling in all areas of our business.
3.3 Energy and Home Working
-
Our home offices use energy-efficient equipment and practices.
-
We use natural light and heating efficiently and shut down devices when not in use.
-
Where feasible, we commit to sourcing renewable energy for our home offices.
3.4 Procurement and Suppliers
-
We favour suppliers and partners with sustainable practices.
-
We minimise the use of consumables, packaging, and non-essential materials.
3.5 Client Engagement
-
We advise clients on integrating sustainability into health and safety systems where relevant.
3.6 Training and Awareness
-
We promote sustainability awareness among all contractors and associates involved with our business, ensuring they understand and follow this policy.
4.0 Carbon Offsetting for Business Travel
Although some site visits are necessary, we acknowledge the carbon emissions caused by vehicle use. To mitigate this, we follow a clear process each year:
-
Track business mileage in a structured log
-
Convert mileage to carbon emissions using 0.28 kg CO₂e per mile
-
Offset total annual emissions through a verified provider
Verified offsetting schemes we support include:
-
Gold Standard (https://www.goldstandard.org)
-
Woodland Carbon Code via Forest Carbon (https://www.forestcarbon.co.uk)
-
Ecologi (https://www.ecologi.com)
5.0 Environmental Objectives and Continuous Improvement
We set measurable targets to reduce our environmental impact, including but not limited to:
-
Minimising waste sent to landfill
-
Lowering overall carbon emissions year on year
We review these objectives annually and update this policy accordingly, striving for continual improvement and adoption of new best practices as technologies and regulations evolve.
6.0 Monitoring and Review
We review our environmental performance and this policy at least annually, or sooner if significant changes occur. Carbon offset receipts, waste records, and other sustainability actions are documented as part of our internal review process.
7.0 Responsibilities
The Director is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and reviewing this policy. All contractors, associates, and volunteers are expected to support and follow its principles when representing the business.
